You are a Small Business owner. You know that you should be on social media, but there are so many networks now and it all takes time to manage. Just because you like a social media channel doesn’t mean your audience likes the same one. What if you only want to start with one social media channel at a time?
Do you pick Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram… and when you take into consideration that over half of adults (52%) online use more than one social media site, the choices can be overwhelming.
But if you know who is interested in buying your product or service, we can narrow this list down. The Infographics in our Startups, Entrepreneurs, and Small Business Owners Pinterest Board are based on Pew Research Center’s January Social Media Report. They show the breakdown of different social media networks by share of the Internet, gender, and age to help you with your decision.
- If you are targeting an older demographic (65+), Facebook might be your best choice. “More than half of all online adults 65 and older (56%) use Facebook. This represents 31% of all seniors.“
- If you are targeting a younger demographic, about half (53%) of 18-29 year-olds use Instagram. Of those, almost half (49%) use Instagram daily.
- If your target market has a college eduction, 50% of online adults who use Linkedin have a college degree
- If you are targeting women, Pinterest has the strongest presence at 42% women to 13% men.
